How to Enable, Download, and Add Subtitles in Kodi
- Fire, visit opensubtitles.org and sign up for a free account. Open Subtitles is the largest user-contiubuted subtitles website on the internet and Kodi has some awesome integration with it.
- After you have a username and password setup, head into Kodi and from the Kodi main menu:
- ON Kodi 17 Krypton: Select Add-ons > Add-on Browser
- ON Kodi 16 or earlier: Select SYSTEM > Add-Ons
- Select Install from Repository > Kodi Add-on repository > Subtitles > Opensubtitles.org > Install
- Wait for Add-on enabled notification
- Click on Opensubtitles.org and click Configure. Enter in your username and password in this screen and then click OK.
- Back at the main menu, navigate to SYSTEM > Player Settings > Language > Preferred Subtitles Language and select the language you would like to receive subtitles in. Note, your options level must be set to “expert” if its not already.
- Play a movie in any add-on. When the movie starts playing, click on Subtitles in the play bar, click Download. Choose opensubtitles.org from the list to automatically search and pull in subtitles from the site.
- Once downloaded, make sure they are set to Enabled. You can press “t” on your keyboard to manually enable and disable them as well.

I tried to sign up with Opensubtitles “for free” after creating a free account and going to the site, you have only a month for free??
Has someone the same experience or do I something wrong?
Everything is simple until I reach step 6. I have no ‘Player settings’ menu under or in my System settings. I’m using a FireTV box. Can anyone help please?
OpenSubtitles is best for subtitles but so is Subscene it works rather good as well. One thing to note, don’t give up if subtitles is not found right off. Use the manual search it often reveals many more versions that way that you might not otherwise see by simply choosing Open Subtitles automatically.
Another thing.. make sure your video title is named correctly when searching for subtitles.. often some recordings also add the file extension in the title (example “Rushmp4.mp4”) that will keep you from finding proper subtitle if any.. Always make sure your video file is named properly or that you adjust accordingly
One thing to add… if experiencing offset in subtitle playback for movie or show, make real sure you have selected pairable recording of subtitle with video download speed or you will have fits IF you can actually adjust speed correctly.. Example a 1080 film you need to look for available subtitle in list that is 1080, same with 720×720 and so on!
