A developing Kodi news story: After TVADDONS issued a warning last night to developers against putting malicious code in their add-ons, the VidTime add-on has closed until further notice! Get the details about VidTime down here

May 4th Update: The VidTime Kodi add-on is now back up and working. Click here to go to the installation guide for VidTime now!

___

Last night, TVADDONS posted a public message to the developers housed in their fusion repo (which is most!), warning them against using malicious code in their add-ons.

The warning was in reference to VidTime and other Kodi add-ons adding code to automatically delete the Team Anonymous Kodi add-on from people’s systems after they were found stealing links from popular add-ons.

Part of TVADDONS’ statement reads as follows:

We want to make our position clear on the matter: we are strongly opposed to any modification made by addons outside their own installation path, their own profile path, or Kodi database path without the end user’s explicit permission to do so prior to any instance of such a modification occuring. We will not under any circumstances permit an addon developer to take it upon him or herself to remove another developer’s addon.

It is imperative that any addon containing any code that falls outside the rules outlined above remove such code immediately. Failure to comply with these community standards within 24 hours will result in complete excommunication from our community, and removal from comunity distribution tools such as the Fusion Installer and Addon Installer. It should be noted that such leeway will not be afforded to addons in the future, any addon that is found to contain such malicious code will be instantly banned.

Now in response, VinMan posted this response on Twitter:

Im shutting VidTime Down as of right now till I talk with some about whats going on..sorry for the inconvenience…

Trying to access the VidTime add-on in Kodi gives a “CLOSED TILL FURTHER NOTICE” message to users, proving that VidTime down.

So when will VidTime return? We will do our best to let everyone know about any further developments!

Let us know on Twitter or Facebook if we can help you out!
