F4M manifest files are decoded by F4MTester, where the live stream file that Kodi plays is grabbed out from the F4M file. F4M files contain more data than regular stream files:

  • Multiple bitrates can be configured so that different stream files can be generated depending on your internet speed or defined quality.
  • Different quality video and audio tracks of a stream can be stored in separate locations, referenced by the F4M file and put back together.
  • Extra meta data and stream information can be saved into the file.
  • F4M streams can be optimized into multiple smaller files and pieced back together on the fly.
  • DRM security can be built into the stream so that users without proper credentials can’t stream the file.

So what is F4MTester? It’s a Kodi add-on that decodes F4M files to strip out the video stream and play it in your Kodi screen. F4M files are becoming more and more popular, so F4MTester will be needed to present these streams to users.

There is a level of sophisticated-ness to F4M files, which means that decoding them should give Kodi users access to some more reliable and better quality streams.

Kodi F4MTester Add-on Install Guide

  • From the Kodi main menu, navigate to SYSTEM > File Manager > Add Source
  • Select None and type the following: http://fusion.tvaddons.co and select Done
  • Highlight the box underneath Enter a name for this media Source & type fusion
  • Select OK and go back to your Home Screen
  • To install the VinMan java files: Select SYSTEM > Add-Ons > Install from zip file > fusion > xbmc-repos > International > repository.xbmchub-x.x.x.zip
  • Wait for Add-on enabled notification and then select Install from repository
  • TVADDONS.co Addon Repository > Video Add-Ons > F4MTester > Install
  • Wait for Add-on enabled notification

  2. installed itself automatically on my system, said it was part of sportsdevil.
    I removed them both, its not good practice to install unwanted addons on peoples builds

  3. For anyone having problems installing F4m Tester, here is a link to the latest version. You need to download the zip file and save it to an external drive. No need to add source, just go straight to add ons > install from zip file > select external drive and click on the zip file you downloaded.
    I tried versions 2.6.9 and 2.7.1 and thy both work just fine. Good luck

  7. This add on is a pain in the butt. I don’t need it & would like to uninstall it, but it says it’s part of Phoenix (which I don’t use) & some Arabic addon.

    Can you give me the steps to uninstall it? Thx!

  9. Hi I was hoping someone from the team could offer a little more expertise regarding an issue.
    I’ve been using the same set up or build all year.Just the other day I had 3 addons that needed updates. Those 3 were F4mtester, Live Stream Pro, and Sports Devil. I had to.puch the update through ,but once I did I got the error PVR Client not installed or no back end tuner installed.
    I never use the PVR or even have the TV selection enabled, NEVER.
    When I looked LIVE Stream Pro still was not updated no matter how I would try to update it and the newest or latest report in installed .Anyway out of the 3 updates, and Live Stream Property not updating leaves with 2 updates that took.But 1 of those updates gives me the PVR /Back End Tuner error.After deciding it must be the F4MTESTER.
    NOW I CANNOT remove or fix the error message at all.

    Somebody with more experience about these add ons and the pvr /back end tuner error message would be very greatly appreciated.

  15. I have followed the process of installing the fm4 tester but when you click on it to install it gives me an error installing failed. Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong. Anything to help would be appreciated

You need f4mtester for .ts links, Without it .ts links will only play for a few seconds, Only drawback is each time f4m finds the new .ts so viewing is continued there may be pixelation, buffering, repeat playback as the begining of the next .ts may over lap from the end of the last, It is very rare a .ts will play continuously with none of the mentioned issues, Personally .ts with f4mtester is a waste of time.

  24. You’re correct. Those Sportsnet streams are run by Neulion, who used to do Premier League Pass. They do work great. Everything else in HD seems to have a glitch for me. SD streams in f4m work fine. I have 38mb fibre too, do that’s not the problem.

  26. I’ve found that the streams pixelate a lot & the sound sync goes from fast to slow. Not all f4m streams, but a large amount. This is on both a windows 10 pc & a Galaxy tab s.
