Kodi “There Was A Problem Parsing The Package” Fix

Are you trying to install or update Kodi but receiving a “There was a problem parsing the package” error? Get the details on what it is and how to fix it below.

We’ve had an increase in users confused and frustrated because they are trying to install or update to Kodi 17.1 but are receiving the error message “there was a problem parsing the package”.

This error messages means that your version of Android is not compatible with Kodi 17. Android 4.4 is no longer supported by the newest version of Kodi and you need to have Android 5.1 or higher to install Kodi 17. If you receive the “there was a problem parsing the package error”, you have an unsupported version.

There are a few solutions you may want to consider:

“There was a problem parsing the package” Kodi Solutions

  1. Buy a new Kodi box. Android 4.4 is 3+ years old and is a legacy product. To ensure that you stay compatible with the newest versions of Kodi, upgrade your Android box. Click here to see our recommend Kodi boxes.
  2. Install SPMC. SPMC is a fork of Kodi optimized for Android boxes. Worth noting, the release notes of SPMC recommend Android 5.1+ as well (see above) but users using Android 4.4 have reported better compatibility when using SPMC.

  3. I have a new A95x box with Android 7.1 and I’m getting the parsing error! Have tried 4x now. Kodi was never installed on this unit.

  4. SPMC is working on all my older tablets just like Kodi works on current Firesticks/FireTV Boxes or Android Boxes.

Change skins, gives the same feel as good old Kodi. Seems to work just fine for me, and I’m
running 4.4.2 on my “older” tablets.

  5. Help…. I’ve followed the instructions to uninstalling Kodi and put it back on we do have a 4.4 Android. It keeps giving me the parsing problem code. I followed all the steps and still have had no luck

  6. Trying to upgrade to Kodi 17.3 from Kodi 16.1 Jarvis and getting a parsing error although we have checked the box to allow anonymous downloads. WTF don’t get it. I have the Quad 4 Magickbox and should be up to date as far as I know.

  7. shit boys your all moaning about buying new android boxes…. think of the money youve saved watching all you have for free…. you all moan that they are greedy … but are you not the same….. uk £40 us $70 …. fucking behave all of you

  8. I have a KitKat 4.4.2Android Box and I have downloaded MyGica and am running Krypton 17 all right.
I wonder if a third party is doing the job, how is possible that Kodi is doing nothing to fix this issue?

  9. Dowloaded fine even after it stated parsing error. I am able to use 17.3 on my older version of g box.

Thank you all for the help

  10. This is the shittiest thing I’ve seen in a while. The solution is buy a new box?!?! Just keep spending money and everything will be fine?! Looks like matricom just wants to make more money. Fucking sucks.

  11. I need to know how to get a restricted profile undone? I put it in so my grandkids could knot c. My adult stuff but now I can’t get it off. Please help

  12. install clean master on fire tv stick run it
then do the install again. I’d delete any apps you don’t use to increase memory.
I think its a problem that there is not enough memory on the device to do an upgrade on kodi so you have to clean everything up first.
I had this parser issue and this worked for me upgrading to 17.3 from 17.2

  13. I cannot believe they would do this, i hope there was a mistake and they will fix it! I brought my android box a little more than a years ago.

  14. WOW an OS from 3 years ago is now considered a legacy product, I wonder if we can all afford to keep up, if this pace of tech change continues forward.

  15. Anonymous is full of it. Krypton sucks for android and windows. Can’t install windows version for the damn error either. But, the developers could care less about how it works or doesn’t. microsoft has windows 10 that nobody want and xbmc has krypton. there is no limit to human stupidity.

  16. You will also get the same error (problem parsing) if you haven’t uninstalled the previous (ie. 16.1 Jarvis) version of Kodi first.

  17. The current version of SPMC is still based on Jarvis (Kodi 16) and doesn’t include Python 2.7.9, so it doesn’t support TLS 1.2, you will need Krypton (Kodi 17) for this support if you want any add-ons to work going forward. Some older boxes can be upgraded to Android 5.1, but this is not an easy trouble-free process and is not something that a technologically challenged person should attempt.
